Suspect a water leak? You need an emergency plumber, pronto!

Did you know that we humans spend an average of 8 minutes per day in the shower?

With the amount of time you spend in there, you will most likely start to notice when things don’t seem quite right.

  • Imagine taking a shower and instead of water coming out of the showerhead like it has every other day, you’re faced with a weak trickle.
  • Or how about after washing your hands at the sink and noticing a pool of water gathering around the taps?
  • And what about that heart-stopping moment: water is not coming out of the toilet tank when you go to flush it. Cue immediate terror!

Whatever the scenario, these are just some signs that you may have a leaking problem within a certain appliance OR within your plumbing system.

A leak is no joke. It can cause damage and it will probably cost you a lot of money. In fact, we’ve already talked about the cost and damage of leaking pipes in this blog post.

The hardest thing is knowing what to do once you suspect you might have leak. How can you track it? And how do you fix it? (Hint: you do not fix it; we do!)

Tracking a water leak in your home

The challenge you face identifying and fixing a leak is dependent on not only the structure and design of your home’s plumbing system, but also the location or source of the leak.

Sometimes the size of your home can also be a factor.

As tempting as it may be to pull on the tool belt and investigate the issue yourself, your safest (and dare we say only?) choice is to leave the job of identifying the root of the leak to plumbing experts.

Fixture leak

If the leaks are found inside the bathroom or kitchen, like within a specific water fixture, then your plumber’s job is made slightly easier. An identifiable leak coming from, for example, your toilet, basin, or tap, can be more simply investigated and rectified by your plumber.

Pipe or system leak

The effects of a leak can be felt as you use appliances, but just because water is trickling slowly out of a showerhead or tap, it does not necessarily mean that the issue is isolated to this specific unit.

You see, a leak deeper within your plumbing system would likely go unidentified unless you had a hint to its existence, hence that low water pressure or unusual pool of water gathering around your shower.

If the origin of the water leak is deeply embedded within your plumbing system, you must only engage the work of an experienced plumbing team to not only solve the problem, but correctly identify it, too. We’ll assess, investigate, and figure out where the leaks are coming from.

The damage caused by a water leak

Seeping water on your walls and floors can be tell-tale signs of water leakage – and even a small amount must not be ignored!

When there is leaking in a room in the home, the water leaking from the fixtures can rapidly be absorbed into your carpet, walls, or flooring.

If the water leak is in a room on a home’s second floor, you may see stains on your ceilings as a result of water damage.

Water leakage can also damage your walls, most especially the ones adjacent to the source of the leak (e.g. kitchen or bathroom).

Parts of your plumbing system are hidden behind your walls, so when a pipe leaks or bursts, the water will penetrate your walls. Water can weaken the materials your walls are made of, and if left untreated, could lead to a bigger problem for homeowners, resulting in structural danger.

The more severe the leaks, the costlier it may be. That’s why it is important to contact plumbing experts before your leaking issues intensify.
