Fixing Drainage Problems for Good
If you’re experiencing repeated blocked drains, overflowing stormwater pits, soggy areas in the garden or water pooling around your property, there’s often a bigger issue underground.
At H2Pro, we carry out a large number of stormwater renewals across Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs, and in many cases, what begins as a simple blockage turns out to be a compromised drain that has deteriorated over time.
What is a Stormwater Renewal?
A stormwater renewal is the replacement of damaged, collapsed or deteriorated stormwater pipework that carries rainwater away from your property.
Stormwater drains are designed to move water from roof gutters, downpipes, pits and surface drains into the legal point of discharge. Over time, these pipes can crack, collapse, sag or become invaded by tree roots, reducing flow and leading to repeat blockages and drainage problems.
Many homes in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs are now 40, 50 or even 60+ years old. Original stormwater systems were commonly built using older earthenware (clay) pipes, which can shift, crack or separate underground over time.
Once gaps form, roots naturally seek out moisture and begin entering the pipe system. Eventually, the blockage becomes more frequent, water stops draining properly and clearing the drain becomes a temporary fix rather than a permanent one.
It Often Starts with a Blockage
Most stormwater renewals start the same way:

In many cases, customers call us for a blocked drain and expect a quick clean-out. While drain clearing can often restore flow temporarily, our drain camera inspections regularly identify underlying problems such as cracked pipes, displaced joints, root intrusion or collapsed sections of stormwater drain.
The reality is that most repeat blockages are caused by a compromised drain of some kind.

Stormwater Renewals in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs
Stormwater renewal is the process of replacing damaged, collapsed or deteriorated stormwater drainage pipework around a property. It is a long-term solution for drainage systems that are no longer functioning properly due to age, damage or root intrusion.
At H2Pro, we carry out a large number of stormwater renewals across Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs, often after a property has experienced ongoing drainage issues that can’t be permanently resolved through clearing or maintenance alone.
When is a Stormwater Renewal Needed?
In many cases, stormwater renewal work starts with a simple problem such as a blocked drain. However, when blockages keep returning or drainage performance continues to decline, it often indicates a deeper issue within the pipework.
Common signs include:
- Repeated blocked stormwater drains
- Water overflowing from pits or gutters during rain
- Poor surface drainage around the home
- Water pooling in gardens or low-lying areas
- Gurgling or slow drainage from stormwater outlets
- Tree roots repeatedly found in the system
Older homes with original earthenware or clay pipes. Many properties in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs were built with early generation earthenware stormwater systems. While durable for their time, these pipes can crack, shift at joints or deteriorate over decades. Once this occurs, tree roots often enter the system in search of moisture, leading to ongoing blockages and reduced flow.
What a Stormwater Renewal Involves
A stormwater renewal typically involves locating the damaged section of pipework, excavating where required, and replacing the failed drainage line with modern, durable pipe designed to improve flow and long-term performance.
Our focus is on:
Identifying the true cause of the problem using inspection and experience
Minimising unnecessary excavation
Replacing only what needs to be replaced
Ensuring correct falls and proper water flow
Restoring the system to reliable, long-term operation
Good stormwater drainage relies on correct installation, proper grading (falls), and ensuring water is directed away from the home and foundations effectively.
A Practical, Problem-Solving Approach
Stormwater renewal work is rarely just a straightforward replacement. Every property is different, and many jobs require problem-solving to work around existing structures, landscaping, driveways and site conditions.
Our approach is to find the most practical and effective solution that resolves the underlying issue, not just the symptom.
Clean, Professional Work and Clear Pricing
We understand that drainage works can be disruptive, especially when excavation is required around established homes and gardens. Our aim is always to complete works efficiently, safely and with as little disruption as possible.
We also provide:
- Upfront, fixed-price detailed quotes
- Clear explanations of what is required and why
- Clean and tidy site practices on completion
- Long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes
Why Stormwater Renewal Matters
Leaving damaged stormwater pipes unaddressed can lead to ongoing blockages, surface water issues and potential damage to landscaping and foundations over time.
A properly completed stormwater renewal provides peace of mind that your drainage system is functioning as it should, even during heavy rainfall events.
With over 20 years of experience, H2Pro provides trusted stormwater renewal services across Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs, helping homeowners move from repeat drainage issues to long-term solutions.

Frequently asked questions about stormwater renewal
How do I know if my water pipes need replacing?
Rusty or discoloured water, reduced pressure, poor flow and recurring leaks can all indicate deteriorating pipework. An inspection will help determine the condition of your existing system.
Do you have to replace all the pipes?
No. Depending on the condition of the existing pipework, we may recommend replacing a particular section or renewing the cold water supply throughout the home.
Can you replace galvanised pipes?
Yes. We regularly come across older galvanised water pipework that has deteriorated with age. We’ll assess the existing system and explain the appropriate options.
Do I need an electrician as well?
Not necessarily. Water pipe renewals can have electrical earthing and bonding considerations, particularly where metal pipework is being removed or replaced. If electrical work is required, we can arrange for a licensed electrician to assess and complete it.
Can you install water filtration at the same time?
Yes. Water filtration is a separate service, and we can discuss filtration options if you’re looking to improve the water quality in your home.

What our customers say

Jayden and Riley originally came to sort an issue with blocked drains under my concrete driveway. They were prompt, efficient, professional in every way and always patiently explained every step. When the source of the issue was discovered they proceeded to diligently sort a solution. They worked efficiently, going above and beyond expectations, and completely cleaned up when the job was fineished. Now 12 months lager Jaydan returned to complete my annual check u, performing camera inspection of works previously done. He found grasses and roots that had to be removed. He clearly explained it all as I watched it on a screen. I have no hesitation in recommending H2pro to anyone needing a plumber in the Eltham area. Definitely five stars!!
