When preparing a home for sale, a building inspection can often uncover issues that may not be obvious to the homeowner. Recently, we completed downpipe stormwater repairs in Park Orchards. A building inspection identified two roof downpipes were not connected to the property’s stormwater drainage system. Instead, they were discharging water directly onto the ground.

With the property in the middle of the selling process, the homeowners wanted the issue resolved properly and professionally before moving forward.

Downpipe stormwater repairs before settlement

After inspecting the property, we identified suitable connection points nearby. We were then able to connect both downpipes into the existing stormwater system.

The works included installing new stormwater pipework and creating permanent connections so roof water could be directed correctly through the property drainage system.

One downpipe required a slightly different approach due to the layout of the home and limited access. In this area, the pipework was neatly installed externally before connecting into the existing stormwater system.

Once completed, we tested the connections to ensure water was flowing correctly with no leaks or issues.

A Professional Finish and Compliance Completed

With the stormwater connections repaired, the building inspection item was addressed and the customer was provided with a Certificate of Compliance on completion.

Another plumbing issue resolved, giving the homeowners one less thing to worry about while preparing their property for sale.

Why Are Connected Downpipes Important?

Downpipes play an important role in directing rainwater away from your roof and safely into the stormwater drainage system.

When downpipes discharge directly onto the ground, it can contribute to:

  • Water pooling around the home
  • Damp or moisture issues
  • Potential drainage problems
  • Concerns raised during building inspections

If you are buying, selling, renovating or preparing for a building inspection, it can be worthwhile having your plumbing and stormwater systems checked by a licensed plumber.
