When an Eltham homeowner noticed a strange white residue appearing on the concrete floor of their garage, they assumed it was mould. They cleaned it away, but by the following day it had returned.
After trying bleach and vinegar without success, they noticed water pooling near the back of the garage. At that point, they knew something more serious was going on and contacted H2PRO Plumbing.
Investigating the Problem
After inspecting the property, we confirmed the issue was a burst water pipe beneath the concrete slab.
Traditionally, this type of repair can involve leak detection, cutting into the concrete slab and repairing the damaged pipe underground. Depending on the location of the leak, this can become a costly and disruptive repair.
A Better Solution
After discussing the available options with the homeowner, we recommended an alternative approach.
Rather than excavating through the concrete slab, we isolated the damaged section of pipe and installed a new water line to bypass the leak completely. This eliminated the faulty section while avoiding unnecessary disruption to the garage floor.
While completing the work, we also installed a new easy-turn garden tap on the new pipework, providing the homeowners with an upgraded and more convenient outdoor tap at the same time.
The Result
By rerouting the water supply instead of breaking through the concrete slab, we were able to provide a practical and cost-effective solution.
The burst pipe was isolated, the water leak was resolved and the homeowner avoided a much more invasive repair.
