Burst Water Pipe in Templestowe: What Was Causing the Problem?
A wet patch in the front lawn of this Templestowe home was the first sign that something wasn’t right. The homeowner called us out to investigate what appeared to be a burst water pipe.
We started by digging down in the area of the wet ground to locate the water pipe. Once we exposed it, we found the problem – the existing pipe was galvanised and had corroded over time, eventually rusting through and creating a hole.
The damaged section was cut out and removed, and we made new connections to both ends of the existing pipe before joining them with new copper pipework. Once the repair was complete, we tested the system to make sure everything was operating correctly and there were no further leaks and backfilled the hole.
What if you keep getting burst pipes?
If you’ve had more than one burst pipe, it can be worth looking beyond the individual leak. Older pipework may be deteriorating in other areas, while high water pressure can also put additional strain on your plumbing.
Having your pipework and water pressure checked can help identify potential problems before another leak appears – particularly in older homes.
If you have a burst water pipe, you should turn off your water meter and call a plumber. We service Templestowe and all of Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs and we usually have a plumber in the area who can get to you quickly. If you’d like us to check the condition of old pipes under your house, please also get in touch. We’d love to help.
